VU had a big impact on me.  The solo stuff less so, though I did appreciate songs here and there. I saw Lou Reed a couple times, once on the Amnesty Int'l tour in '86  (I remember Saunders had a really cool bassline on a song called "Video Violence").

I thought it was interesting that he and Laurie Anderson got together and eventually married.

I'm sorry to see him go.  "White Light / White Heat" looping in my head today.
Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy

Laurie is hot, the man had fine taste.
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

Let the man rest before making a move, Uwe...
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Deconstructivism at its best ...

And no matter what people say, I found Lulu brave, so there!

I'll call your Solsbury Hill and raise you a Smoke...

I'll take your Smoke and raise you a "Little Less."

I'll play...actually not so bad.  The arrangements are nicely done.  Even Alice Cooper liked this.

I loved New York.
I never really totally got the rest of his work like some of my friends did.  Although some of his Velvet stuff (Pale Blue Eyes, Femme Fatale, There She Goes...) was great.
The Laurie Anderson merger was interesting, and I also thought she was hot and scary (musically) all at the same time.

BTW, that ZZ Top mess will undoubtedly give me nightmares...

My friends played Lou Reed live to death, the sweet Jane intro. They had some great guitarists back then, hunter and I forgot who the other was.

I subscribe to Bob Lefsetz's blog, and here's what Dick Wagner wrote to him:

"The rock n roll animal is gone, but his songs live on through his recordings. I was happy to read that Rock n Roll Animal was an album you liked. I take personal pride in having been the principal leader of the band, co-lead guitarist and live performance  arranger for songs like "Heroin". The band managed to take Lou to his first gold record and create a greater awareness of his prodigious talents to a wider audience than before. Lou was not an easy man to know, and as a consequence, I never got to really  know him except in band matters and through his incredible songs. The songs from BERLIN are particularly genius. I miss those days of the Rock n Roll Animal band, on the road  with Lou, and later, with Alice Cooper.

Someone, somewhere wants a do-over on that Iggy Reed shirt.
...like the genius who designed this shirt for an institute of higher learning:
