This bass looks pretty nice for the asking price. The only flag I see is some signs of modification on the plastic back plate. I wish I needed it! Complete with a "Tilt-O-Matic" 2 point bridge!  :P

Wish I needed it as well- nice looking bass and price!

Looks like a slide switch mounted there on the rear cover:

That should be easily replaced if nothing else is goofed up too badly. He thinks it's walnut, looks like cherry to me in most of the photos. I'm pretty sure the price was $600.00 this morning.

I think it's faded cherry.  the walnut finish is a deeper shade

$550 is about what they were going for 15 years ago. Looks like somebody got a good deal. I'm not fond of these later ones though.

godofthunder

Same price as I just paid for my '68. While I think $550.00 is a good deal I am much happier paying that for the '68 I just bought .............a much better bass imho.

I would much prefer a '68 too, but you got an exceptionally good deal.

Why no love for the '73ish EBO's?  Seems like that pickup placement would cure a lot of the EBO problems.

Oh it's not a bad bass in it's own way. The bigger thicker body makes them feel a bit clunky next to it's thinner, svelte  older sibling. The maple three piece neck may be a improvement but the large headstock with the new heavier tuners are not imho. Capped off with the cheapo silkscreen logo. If that bass was available and I wanted a 70's EB0 that's a great deal. It's sort of like taking out the hot chicks plumper sister, I'm sure shes a lot of fun to.

My EB-4L is the only EB I've owned from that era. I like it, but it doesn't have the feel of the 60's EB's. I haven't seen one in nice shape go that cheap for over ten years............

The vintage market is way down now is the time to buy if you can.

It doesn't really change anything much tonally. Of course some of us don't think the EB-0 has problems.  :)  The downside is that they're heavier and less graceful than the 60s and slothead years.

Objection, your honor!!! The mudbucker on a seventies model does sound clearer than either on a mid-sixties or a slothead, it still has ample bass, but also a semblance of treble and presence, not all mids like the mid-sixties or all subwoof like the slotheads. That might be due to the more middle position or the altering of those pups or both. The varitone set-up on the seventies models is certainly different and makes more sense (all four positions can be used with the volume of the amp in the same setting).

The sound of the bass on Golden Earring's studio version of Radar Love is a seventies EB-3 (or EB-O), that sound would habe been unattainable with a mid-sixties or slothead EB.

The thing is, not everyone considers that a problem.  Mud fo'eva!

... also the neck profile and material (maho -> maple) changed for EB3 series II (everything port Slothead aka transition era). ... and chunkier bodies.  The pre 69 ones weigh nothing (not that I care about weight - my main player is a Triumph) and have a better feel IMHO.
