Wacky Baz Cooper is at it again! Funny stuff!!

Ok...so NO...I did not trade any Reverse 1960's T birds for a Jazz bass....howEVER.....I have been offered a 1967 Embassy even trade for my 1969 NR T bird II....Only problem I see..is that MY Bird has UN filed Un Notched Saddles and the copper mutes...felt..covers case...while the Embassy has FILED saddles and missing 3 of the 4 acorn nuts....has the case...from Rivington Guitars in NY. Thoughts??
Should I do it/? And Tell Him I want to keep my bridge??? Or am I just NUTS? Do Embassy basses KILL T Birds??? I mean...it's basically the same bass....Thoughts??? Other than the above, both basses are original and unbroken.

Is this OCD in its purest form?  My understanding is that the hardware and pickups are exactly the same, whether it's a Thunderbird or Embassy. From there, you are really getting down to the individual components.  My Embassy was one of four hanging on the rack the day I found it.  Of the four, only one had a tone to die for.  It still does.  I couldn't tell you why.  My two cents - I let my hands and my ears decide whether a bass is worth it or not.  You won't convince me in any way that an acorn nut is a deal maker/breaker.

I don't know man if I'd do it, man. You're already talking about the work the Embassy needs to make it right for you. If I was going to trade something like the NR II it would have to be something at least equal in all aspects, with the possible exception that it sounds better.

Trust me: You are nuts. Stark raving mad bonkers total verrückt. Your children should take immediate custody of you and your TBird and only relinquish it once the doctors say you are making giant leaps forward. In a decade or so - after suitable long term medication that is ("Baz is doing better all the time and he likes it here!").

Let's not get carried away: A TBird is a classic, an Epiphone Embassy is cult. Like Citizen Kane is a classic



and Tarantula is cult.




One should not mistake the two.

I like Embassy basses better than NR Birds, but I wouldn't make that trade simply because of the condition issues. I REALLY think you should find a bunch of ho parts and build yourself something odd to kill this trade itch you've got. Think outside of the box; your multi-octave basses are gorgeous, but you've been there/ done that. Take a look at what you think you'd want out of a bass, even if just for novelty and try building something crazy, even if it's just with junk parts. That way, you're not spending a lot of time and money fabricating and you may inspire yourself to do do something nuts (in a GOOD way) on a bass than what you normally would. You've been fiending for 60's Jazz basses. Junked parts from copies of them are plentiful and cheap and you could go a completely crazy way like taking a neck and installing a tenon to make a set-neck bass or find a junked through-neck bass and make it into a set neck or try some weird body wings. Throw some oddball pickups in whatever body you want and you may end up with a cheap frankenstein that might be killer and you'll be distracted from trading away a bass you'll miss the second it's gone. You may also end up with a prototype.
