It's not so much that his review on the 1980 G-3 is bad, it's that he spares no opportunity to say how BAD the new G-3 is.
Conveniently, he's disabled comments.

Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?
Clocks.

I can't help but like Scott even when I disagree with him. He sells a ton of his low cost guitar lessons on eBay, he's helped a lot of people and he's a talented player. He's also quirky and definitely not afraid to speak his mind.

Basvarken

The bass sounds great. Eventhough he finds it necessary to keep slapping the poor thing...

I don't mind him slapping - the G-3, even when it came out, was aimed at funkers, its scooped sound (especially when changing the stock pup configuration and eliminating the middle one in the middle position and bringing the bridge one in instead) lent itself to slapping. But calling the original bridge cool is laughable, it's a cheap piece of junk of soft low quality metal where the slotted screws strip quicker than a crack whore in Las Vegas - I have five basses with that bridge, I should know. Without the cover it cuts up your palm too and hoards you skin particles unappetizingly/harvester of DNA. A Fender bridge is at least built to last. And compared to the original G-3 bridge the three point of the new Tribute is a Panzer of stability. Cheap as the original bridge is, I give it that it must have an influence for the very snappy sound of an old G-3.

The rant about the "G-3 reissue" is bollocks, the bass is called "Grabber 3 70s Tribute" and doesn't profess to be a reissue of the G-3. For all the undeniable qualities of the old G-3s (I really dig them), they always - like Grabbers - felt a bit cheap, something the Tribute doesn't. And it might lend itself less to a scooped slap sound, but has more authority and a deeper sustain. The low bass frequencies on an old G-3 are billowing, the Tribute is more focused there.

Similar looks aside, the two basses shouldn't really be compared as regards "better" or "worse". But let's not be too hard on a man who plays both Carry on Wayward Son and Detroit Rock City on a bass.  8)

A couple of years ago over at TDPRI, he said that if any one of his guitars gets scratched or dented, he sells it. That really shocked some of the relic fans over there.  :)

He says some things I don't agree with at all, OTOH he really enjoys teaching people and that's a good thing.

Nocturnal

He does make some statements that are incorrect in my opinion, but he can be entertaining. His review of the Gibson 80's Explorer with the graphic finish is kind of funny for his complaints about strings. I can see why he would disable comments on his videos. I'm sure he pisses a lot of people off.
