He's from North Carolina, just like the previous bassist for Skynyrd, Robert Kearns.

Robert Kearns has a great Wilkesonesque look about him in this pic.

I bought this bass from Johnny about a decade ago....a Hamer 12ver in custom white with black binding.

If you look close at the dot inlays, Hamer used real Colt 45 shell casings!! One of the coolest one-off fret markers Hamer ever did. "John Colt" on the headstock above the Hamer logo.

This bass was also loaned to Marcy Playground for use on the band's first LP.

Uwe's slothead EB-0L not only has a real shell casing inlay, it's in the location where someone shot off part of the fretboard.

If that was a bullet hole in the fingeboard.....did they plug it with the shell casing instead of the bullet?

Uwe's luthier had to repair the board and the associated neck crack. The bullet was long gone when I bought the bass for him. Apparently it was innocently sitting on its stand during a set or between sets when a bar fight broke out and shots were fired.

Here's what it looked like before the repair.

HA! Cool story.

BTW....Here's my qualification target shooting for my carry permit from last Feb. Had never shot a handgun before but still put every one (40 out of 40) thru the "10" at various distances with my 9mm.

Up until I did that the instructor was sort of giving me looks, wondering if I was serious, since I definitely look more like a long haired musician. It was only a Navy Seal and I who had shown up for the 8 a.m. Sat class and everyone else had cancelled because it was right in the middle of Mardi Gras and we were in New Orleans.

I'd woken up with someone standng over me robbing my house awhile back and my GFs brother was recently was held up and stabbed, so that prompted me to get the gun and learn how to use it. My dad was a NYC cop and my brother is a Fed, yet I'd never even picked up a handgun until the test.
