JJ Cale Dead From Heart Attack At 74

Sad news. He was never well known to the general public but his songs are.

My favorite of his singles

A failed attempt at a blues band had "Lies" on our song list.  Great little song.  RIP, JJ Cale.   I seem to recall him thanking Eric Clapton for his house.   8)

He wrote this one.

If I recall the original, LS didn't really do a whole lot to the actual song.  Maybe some added guitar, but the same structure and feel.

Was playing "cocaine" in a cover band last night. The band leader called it maybe only a couple hours after the man passed. I don't think he knew at the time. No rehearsal but it worked out fine.
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

You gotta love his old guitar.

Someone on Facebook posted, "Eric Clapton should always be made to wear a t-shirt which reads, 'I owe everything to JJ Cale'".

Probably some kid who never heard of John Mayall.

Highlander

I got into his work from listening to Skynyrd...

They also covered this song of his, pretty closely to the original too - listen to both and see what I mean...

R.I.P JJ Cale.  Played Cocaine in my high school band and we did a funky version of it when I was in college.  Always got the crowd going.

Troubadour, his seventies album with Cocaine on it, had big sales in Germany. Cocaine got butts on the dance floors. I think I'll listen now to his abum with Eric Clapton some years back. Good man.
