Highlander

Here he is, singing pretty well, playing pretty well, doing the best he can... that's all that counts...

Yeah, he lost his leg to diabetes about the same time my lead guitar player lost his. Back in the Mountain days I saw him several times and the fat tone he had never ceased to amaze me. Although he always had a great bass player with him, he is the one guy who probably could have gotten away with no bass player at all, or somebody mediocre just to fill in the gap when he took a solo.  When he would bang out chords he covered the low register so well there wasn't much left to do for a bass player. I've heard some of his newer blues stuff on BB King's Bluesville  station and the guy can still light it up ;D.

Felix was a perfect foil...

Several times, Rick...? I can only envy you... only time I saw them was (iirc) with Corky and Kenny Aaronsen supporting Deep Purple on the first #2 reunion tour... good show, but... plenty of those Felix sets now appearing to listen to though...

I've heard several songs of his on BB King's Bluesville & bought some of the CD's. I bought what was sort of an instructional video he put out about ten years ago, "Big Phat Ass Guitar". He showed his setup & some of his techniques, etc.......... It also had a an old video of & our former governor, Jesse Ventura & Leslie. Jesse was trying to pull a guitar out of a large stone, (like the sword in the stone), of course he couldn't. Leslie pulled it out being a so called Guitar God.................

I can't believe a former wrestler would be involved in something that was staged.  :o ;D

A former wrestler and a former governor.  Plus, the host of a conspiracy theory show.  You just never know where you're going to see Jesse Ventura.  I even happened to stumble across a Zorro TV show in which he was in some kind of strange guest role.  On top of that, a former Navy Seal.

My last Mountain-related activity was buying the 2 CD set "Over the Top" a few years ago.  Whether on CD or in some other form, it's a worthwhile compilation.  It even has the obscure two songs recorded just for the album with Noel Redding on bass.  Noel Redding's playing isn't on the Felix Pappalardi level, but those two songs were much better than I was expecting.  No anthology can be perfect, but this one is pretty good, IMO.  It was worth what I paid for it, but you can't get a good deal on it now.  The future of CDs may be looking somewhat uncertain now.  I don't know.

just for the record i hate the term 'rock god'. it means nothing and gives people the impression rock musicians are something special. these folks get far more attention and money than way more gifted people playing in other genres. imo of course. :) your results will definitly differ.

There are the two extremes, both of which are highly questionable.  Calling people rock gods, or going to the other extreme and saying being a rock star isn't even work.

I don't, but I do have a couple of CDs of the band Cork with Corky Laing on drums.  Something probably even more obscure (maybe for good reason, though.)

Jesse's term as governor was mainly remarkable because he turned out to be so incredibly thin-skinned. The least bit of press criticism and he would pout in public.

I don't know much about Minnesota politics.  Sometimes his conspiracy theory show is interesting, although often far-fetched.  Kind of like Leonard Nimoy's "In Search Of" show in which nothing was ever really proven.

I've heard about those recordings. Judging from this song it was an ill fit - no wonder it went nowhere. Sounds overdone without any real substance. I love "the 'Unter", but he needs a certain musical setting to shine, and Felix Pappalardi and Corky Laing were too blues-entrenched and slo-mo heavy to play Hunter's urban rock'n'roll just as Hunter doesn't have the pipes to sing in a blues-based hard rock band. He once jammed/auditioned with Uriah Heep too (was probably drawn in via the Trevor Bolder connection), it was an awkward fit and he realized it immediately "even though the money was interesting!".
