I saw my son doubling on bass Paul Gilbert's rendition of Bach's Invention No.8, the kid has turned into a bass monster, I just want to play faster than him again. It's a parental authority thing.  ;)

That's some slippery slope you've got yourself on there, Ilan...  ;D

Forget it, Ilan. I have no chance against my son and he taunts me all the time. Sits down with one of my basses (preferably a Jazz Bass), puts on the most horribly trebly sound imaginable and then plays really close to the bridge something ultra-fast and smiles insolently at  me: "Hey, Dad, look, that is bass playing!" To add insult to injury, he then slaps on the bass, something I can't do either.

Edith is very helpful too: "He's quite a bit faster than you, isn't he?"  :-\

I get even with chordal things though. "Play a D Sus 9 for me, son!" And he goes: "A what?!!!" And then the stern father: "Haven't you been playing guitar long enough to know a beginner's chord like that?"

Yes, I can't do that, he's a jazz player, he actually knows all those chord tensions far better than me. All I have left now is my pick technique.  :-[

There must be people out there who like this. Please come back, Racer X, all might not be forgiven, but hopefully forgotten.

The upper horn is too long for a Ric. I'd say it is a custom build with Rickish features. And like the rest of us he isn't happy with just one.

Might be a Veillette Cintron. That pseudo Ric has the same circle inlays and 24 fret neck join and similar rounded horns as his custom VC8 did.

Eventually he'll discover blues and mellow out - the "one note where a lesser guitarist would play a dozen" school of "hitting the note"... ;)

He's already at that stage, very blues-oriented. He only plays fast to bug me!

I remember when Joey Challenged Billy Sheehan to a Duel. Billy was more than happy to oblige. Thought it would be fun. But it somehow Never happened.

That contest wouldn't have lasted long. Sheehan is a phenomenon whether you like his bass style or not.
