looks wider than a 1.5 nut from here.

Specs say 1.625" about normal for a modern P bass.

That sounds like about a "B" neck width.

I should get to see one when they come into the HOG.

Anyone know what the output is on that pickup?

Too new. If it's anything like a typical Gretsch Filtertron, it's fairly low output.

Found this thread at a Gretsch forum, one post said they're supposed to be Fender copies of a TV Jones pickup.

Keep in mind that Gretsch owns the trademark on the name Filtertron and Fender doesn't actually own Gretsch, they just make and market them under license from Fred Gretsch. So it's no surprise that Fender came up with a new name.

sounded real punchy to me...I actually liked it.

I like the simplicity of the bass.  FilterTrons can be a bit tame IMHO.

Here's a review of Fidelitrons vs. Filtertrons in two guitars. Here's another that compares Fidelitrons to TV Jones Classics. Probably the best we can hope for until someone does a head-to-head comparison with basses.

No, Mexico. There are pictures of the back of the headstock on the Sweetwater site and you can see the MX prefix of the serial number there.

At least they found another use for the Mike Dirnt bodies.  8)  These have the same slab body on back but with the forearm contour.

Dave W

You must be right about using surplus Dirnt bodies. Makes perfect sense. They would have no problem using regular P bodies, so why else would they use a slab back on this one?

godofthunder

I talked with the Fender rep today and told him they need to make a 60's slab body "Entwistle" bass ala Live At Leeds. He said they have done custom shop versions (oy over priced planks) I suggested they make one most boomers or younger cats who are into JAE could afford. Something out of the Mexico or Japan shops would be nice or even a nice USA version.

I have a couple of Filtertrons around...when I get to that Tele project, this gives me ideas.

me too .  always thought the string spacing is a issue for a fender bridge   wonder if they changed the pups or they aren't telling us something about the bridge
