There is an Epi JC silverburst as a limited run - well within budget and in the good books for being so... more to spend on the other half... ;)

 Thats a really good thought Kenny. I had a JC the first years they came out, lovely bass, regretted selling it the minute I did.

I third the motion.  The JC is a nice bass with a really strong voice.

 Neither the Hofner nor the Epi fit my collecting criteria, vintage or USA, preferably both. Not that that rule hasn't been bent any number of times. I am leaning toward the Hofner President. The one that Bill bought at the House of Guitars was just so well built for a MIC instrument it was amazing. Really a beautiful piece of work regardless of country of manufacture. I am also toying with a Sunburst NR to go with my Pelham Blue one, but I think I have enough Thunderbirds. No decisions yet I am going to look for a bit.

Well Scott, another bass I covet, and maybe you ought to consider, is a 51 P bass RI.  Very different from anything else you hvw, right?I've been thinking about one of those!

 I have had a MIJ 51 very nice bass and that little single coil has BALLS!

you can donate instruments to schools and churches with music programs. 100 % tax deductible , too. april 15 is closer than you think. they will take most anything that is in good shape. we did it a couple times and it's a pretty rewarding feeling.

 I have given away basses in the past but I doubt I'd donate a '79 Telecaster bass.

 No Ric at the moment and no Jazz bass. Probably for good reason. I'll be honest what I would really like is another  Cataldo NR in Invernese green, My Wife's eyes are green :) Not sure it 's in the budget.

 The poor thing was gone over when I got it. It had single coil, the P and the J pickups with a 50's style pg and control plate with a load of knobs and switches. The big Humbucker by the neck had been removed. I think I paid 600 for it. Once I got it I re introduced the Humbucker at the neck and the appropriate 70's style pg. I used two concentric pots wired with 4 vol. to keep a cleaner look.  At some point I am going to make a new pg for her, the control cavity was routed out just a little but the stock pg doesn't quite cover the route. She is stamped Feb. 28 '79, one of the last out the door. Poor thing needed a home and I always wanted a 70's Tele but couldn't part whith what they are going for these days. I call her KS short for Kitchen Sink as in everything  including the kitchen sink.
