Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

OK, if I sell my Gibson Explorer, and I sell my Fenderbird....  :P

Dang. That's quite a bass!

Thanks, guys, I think I'm finally getting the hang of it.  That's the final version of the bridge/tailpiece, Steve did new tooling for the TP.  I used a Caswell Plug'n'Plate to gold plate it and the bridge carrier.  All the other gold plated parts came that way.

Pickguard template gets transferred to material, cut out on bandsaw and cleaned up.

Ready for drilling and countersinking.

Aluminum tape in control cavity and cover.

Done Deal.

And of course, the tree shot.

Sally type up a letter for Peter will you, as follows...

Dear Mr Cook

We sincerely thank you for all the exceptional work you have carried out over the years for Mr Entwistle but unfortunately we will have to let you go. Having seen the preceding evidence I'm sure you will understand...

Kindest regards, etc

Make sure he gets it by end of business today, thanks... ;D

Hangs great, tucks well under the arm.

Depends which side he dresses...
Left, of course.

Case is another matter.  This is an Epi Explorer case, plenty of room for the Ebird because it is more compact than an Epi.  But not enough padding where it counts.

First step is to remove the  accessory compartment, 8 screws.  It will be moved around 3 inches closer to the headstock.

1.5" rigid foam insulation.  Extra clearance is gained by angling the bass so the pointy bits are farther from the edges.  The bulkhead is solid stiff foam backed by .5" plywood.  It's flipped around from its original orientation to accommodate the angled Ebird.

Bandsawn and .5" foam added underneath to bring height to 2 inches, total depth of case bottom.

Fleece reinstalled, original .75" bottom foam cut to fit. Not enough fabric to completely cover the foam because of the 2" depth and curves...

...so this one gets a 100% cotton tee wrap.

After relocating compartment, a good dusting and a new sticker:

Case took longer than it should have, next one will be a lot easier.  ExplorerBird flies North tomorrow.

Hmm... the case is altered...

Any time for some soundbites...?

Mike got the bass and used it last week for a Hurricane Sandy/Who Gives Back benefit that raised money for Teen Cancer America.

He says the bass caused quite a stir.
