Yeah I know Coro II's are reputed to be crap. But in LPB that turned turquoise... what a beauty.

Nice one!

They aren't crap (IMHO), they just aren't anything special.

I know folks who think they are.  Sure is pretty though you know, for a Fender  :P).

Some of us are Fender fans!!

That Coronado (and that color) create GAS-lust in my heart.

There's something about hollowbodies and semi-hollows that just looks RIGHT for an instrument.

I suspect most folks who think they're crap have never played one or heard anyone else play one. Not that anyone ought to like it just because it looks nice.

One of the old Fender guys -- Bill Carson, IIRC -- was quoted in a book or interview about the Coros and said some things that were flat out inaccurate, e.g. that there were feedback problems with the DeArmond pickups. Utter bullcrap, Coros did feedback like most true hollowbodies but it had nothing to do with the pickups. Anyway, what he said got picked up and passed around as if it were fact.

I meant that I know folks who think they're something special.

Geez, you'd think Fender dominance of the market would take care of the complexes. :-*

Ah, I see.

I got rid of mine in less than a year, so I don't have any love for them. Neck diver with so-so tone. Wouldn't mind having the Coro I with the single neck pickup though, they sound surprisingly different and better to my ears.

drbassman

I had 2 and they just aren't that good as far as tone.  IMHO!

Rob

Is it design or just cheesy pickups?

Dave W

They're DeArmond/Rowe pickups. IMHO they're not the problem. Just a combination of things, including the scale length, come together to make it an uninspiring sound. Still, I like the single neck pickup version.

drbassman

I agree with Dave.  I think some of it is the thinner body.  It just doesn't resonate.  The two I had just didn't seem to have any "liveness" to their tone/sound.  I do agree, cool looking, but not stellar performers.  The EB-2 was heads above the Coronado.

That's a good description, Bill. No liveliness at all.
