Still on schedule for Monday delivery.

I'm really interested in a review of sorts Dave. I think that bass is actually going to be a bit of a sleeper.

No "new" non-traditional shaped Gibson bass has made it since the late seventies/early eighties for more than a few years, RDs and Victories all fell by the wayside after five years at the most. (Before that the Ripper shape hadn't lasted much longer either). The long runners are the post-87 TB, early nineties long scale LPs (Special, DeLuxe, Standard, Faded, BFG and Oversize) and SG RI | Supreme | Standard | Faded - all trad shapes harking back to the fifties (LP)  and early sixties (SG and TB). So the EB will  have an uphill struggle. Even if it is an excellent bass, it will probably have a hard time outliving the LP Doublecut/Mon(k)ey which only had a few years as well. Still better than the Continental V or the Limited Edition Tobias Growler by Gibson which only made it to their site, but was never even produced when they resumed production after the Nashville flood!

Of course a pronounced libertarian endorsement by Dave might do wonders for EB sales! Will this man be lured away from his S.U.B.?

I have it slated for when you fabulous lads finally secede from the (European, no ... Continental) Union!

It's not a good sign that American Musical and Sweetwater seem to be the only online dealers carrying it.

OTOH it's early yet. Maybe MF/GC and their related companies are planning to carry it. Maybe Gibson just gave American Musical and Sweetwater a head start.

Ok mainly to satisfy Dave I checked one of these out at the House of Guitars. Overall build quality is very good on par with my Worn SG bass. The bass is finished in a overall matte, I dig the mustard /ketchup bust on the two piece Ash body. My immediate impression was that of a Moserite with a fat long neck. The neck is one piece maple with a rosewood fingerboard. The pickups look like standard TB Plus housings but with eight large pole pieces each. The bass is tight and focused, none of the blur one associates with a Gibson. The bass suffers from EB4-itus. When you bend the strings past the pole pieces there is a noticeable drop in volume. This would be a deal breaker for me but if you don't bend notes you may never notice it. The bass is a bit neck heavy as the body is quite compact. Overall the bass is well built, has a lets say unique vibe and is priced reasonably. Not my cup of tea but it may be yours.

The bass just arrived. I've been up most of the night and busy this morning with my poor sick old dog so I'm going to let it acclimate to room temperature for a few hours while I try to get some rest. I'll open it and take pics later.

Hope it's a great experience.  Your experience on stage will be helpful in establishing classroom presence, and I'm sure you're very comfortable in that setting.

Thanks, Mark and Uwe. Jody is a 16 year old Norwegian Elkhound. That's positively ancient for an elkhound. I know she doesn't have long, she has all the senior dog problems in spades, but she doesn't seem ready to go yet. Last night and this morning sure were rough though. I'm as prepared as I can be.

Here's a quick first pic for you, the natural satin open grained look is great. I'll take it downstairs and plug it in tomorrow. Seems fairly light for an ash bass, I'll know more when it's on a strap.

Wow, I'm sorry about Jody, Dave. She sounds pretty special to you. I hope you both can enjoy what time you have left. And although it kind of pales in comparison, congrats on the new bass. I like how it looks!

Interesting, how EBMM is now making 2+2 rather than 3+1 headstocks ...   The pickguard is nicely swooshy though, a Nike bass!

More importantly: 16 years is a biblical age for a large dog, Jody would have never gotten that far if you hadn't taken care of her so well, Dave. Just make it gentle for her when it's time to go.
