I made a memory check. This is probably why I thought it was called EB from '53-'58 but I will not argue since I was born in the 70's and I have no idea what source these lines derive from:

Daniel, I was born in the 40s but wasn't thinking about basses yet in 53.  :)  I have seen a catalog and price list, and Gibson only referred to it as the Electric Bass. And if you scroll down to 1954-55 on this page, you can see that its 55 catalog page still just called it the Electric Bass.

I don't mean to split hairs, only wanted to say that it wasn't reusing the name of the original violin bass.

The one I saw was at Encore.

Chad has had some good stuff. I bought my RD Artist bass from him & traded my first Les Paul Signature bass for one he had that was in better shape. He had 3 Les Paul Signature basses in his shop when I brought my trade-in, I haven't seen any since. I really can't recall where I saw the bass, it could have been at a local guitar show. Chad is always there to snap up a bargin!

The overall vibe of this thing hits me sort of as an RB modernized on the cheap. I'm willing to bet there are some monster unique tones lurking in it, but the look is going to make it flop commercially.

I agree with PSG's point but hey the Mustang bass (I actually like that shape considering it is a monster bass) initially looked like a watered down shape and one of the foremost ugly Warwick Thumb basses sell quite well across the board. Shocking really.

Psycho Bass Guy

Warwick keeps a high profile list of active endorsers and markets heavily. The Thumb Bass, excepting the very first versions, is a total piece of garbage, but it's a piece of garbage that has dozens of players and ads pimping it. Gibson barely acknowledges that it makes basses.

The proof should be, "how does it sound", rather than "how does it look"...

I can't disagree with you here...................

Problem is, if I don't like how "it" looks - I won't be buying "it"

I was really thinking of the three times in my past that I've bought a 7ender, I don't care for them visually (or sonically as it turns out) but I put that aside on separate occasions and bought one.......... It was difficult to even see myself in the mirror with one on, never again, regardless of who makes the bass.

That said, I've taken quite a shine to the G-3, makes me want to start a Smithereens tribute band, that bass kills tuned E flat!

I would love to play a G-3...I think I would love those single coil pups...

I really like how it looks. And classic ash body/maple neck with AlNiCo pickups must be a great combination.
I wonder how it sounds though. If I'll find a decent demo and like the sound, I'll definitely try to get one.
