Ended with a winning bid of £620

If that's genuine I'll be swapping back the P90 into my SG tomorrow!

Mine IS a Magnum - and IS the kind that Tony has in Old Boy - I hope it's not a Sabbath fan that got suckered.

Yeah, back to the single-coil sounds methinks, won't be as easy to retro the bridge though, the stubs had to be moved slightly.

Ha ha! Yeah, mine too! Though with that logic there's a JB Flying V on there with two of those pickups, in theory he could take the pickups out & sell them for more than he wants for the whole guitar! Insane!

A triumvirate...! ;D

Mines a special with a defective bridge and a dodgy Bigsby - you can guess the condition (with my rep :o)

Yeah, well , when I said a "$1000 pickup" I didn't expect an avalanche!

"I'm giving up and know someone will need this to restore their untrarare and highly valuable John Birch guitar. It is fine for its age."

Untrarare? A new classification of rarity.

And "fine for its age" could mean anything from "pristine" to "looks like it was pounded by hammers but still works."

On the plus side, I'm pleased to see that John Birch guitars is a firm in Great Britain, removing any political aspect from the brand naming.

I had no idea about the US John Birch until I started doing Ebay searches years ago. I did wonder at one time why Bob Dylan would sing about a guitar builder!
At least this seller has done his homework about which pickup Iommi uses; though his is overpowered, even for a Magnum, and would be rejected by Tony. Apparently he's prefers them to be about 18kOhms.

I've got a copy of an i'view Tony did with a guitar mag. Lots of detail about Old Boy & history (John Birch built Tony's 1st custom SG to cater for his damaged fingers, Tony liked it so much that he financed him to build guitars rather than repairs and pickups) but in it he repeated a rumour about John Birch and Birch sued the magazine for thousands. Kinda shot himself in the foot though because the mag had very little to do with John Birch up until his death.

Not to be confused with The Society For The Preservation Of Wooden Toilet Seats, which is better known as the Birch John Society.  :)
