The sound guy and his assistant can't stop telling you how perfectly awesome your bass tone is. Especially when it's a GOOD sound guy. "No matter where I put you in the mix, it was perfect!"  ;D Well, you'd have to try really hard to F that up with a Ric through a '74 SVT. It's also testament to how misguided some of the youngins are when it comes to tone. Bass has become so bland and generic in a lot of music these days. There's no magic bullet gear-wise that's going to get you a great tone. Start with the hands!

Agreed! We worked with a new sound man Thursday who happens to be a bass player also. He just loved my tone and made sure the mix was bass heavy!

I have always been amazed at how many bassists don't get the difference between stage sound and room sound.  I always run with room sound.  I'd rather have everyone in the room tell me how good it sounded than get self-absorbed with the sound 5 feet in front of the amp.  The last few gigs I did, I got comments on my bass.  The Holy Crap bass was noticed by an old friend who runs a recording studio that said he heard every note I played everywhere in the room.  I'm not sure if that's good or bad!   The country band always liked my sound, too.

And sorry to any guitarists, but if you don't have a really strong and solid bass in the room, you should just pack up and go home.   :toast:

To quote Duck Dunn after cutting the (2 take) rhythm track of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around":
"If you don't like that, you don't like pussy."

Bass IS the sexiest instrument.

Another good night in Springfield on Saturday. Guy saw there was no DI on my SVT. "I'll just mic it". Yay! Then sound check - "I didn't have to do anything. It already sounds good!"
