The more I look at it, the more I like this funky bass.  I agree with Dave, a playing card thickness is a good place to start with shims.  When I want a big difference I use some veneer wow I have around the shop.  Probably about 3 playing cards of thickness.
I'm fixin' a hole where the rain gets in..........cuz I'm built for a kilt!
