Pretty cool.

Not sure how many watch any of the U.S. cable TV pawn shop shows. About a month back on the one that is based in Las Vegas, some guy walks in with MARY FORD's '63 Les Paul Custom...her famous white one with the 3 PUPs. He also had a folder FULL of personal letters and documants from Les Paul. Apparently, he was a family member who the guitar had be left to.

So, they brought in an expert who confirmed everything was real and legit. What was really interesting was that one of the letters from the 1950s was from Les to an attorney of his, complaining that he was unhappy with Gibson and thinking that he should find a different company to build his designs. Pretty amazing.

Just wild what walks through the door of these shops.

Around the same week, on a similar show based down near New Orleans a childhood friend of Jerry Lee Lewis walked in trying to sell an acetate that he claimed was the first recording ever done by Jerry Lee. The guy claimed he was a childhood school friend who fronted $2.50 for Jerry to go in and make the recording because Jerry "wanted to hear what his voice sounded like on record."  Again, some expert came in and verified the disc was legit. Another amazing thing to find existed that probably belongs in a museum.

A friend of mine who is a retired horn player has a Strat Hendrix gave him when they were friends and used to play in the Village in NYC back in the 60s. He just has it sitting under his bed as a keepsake for the last 40+ years.

That looks just like Rob's bass - so it was a prototype and not just a one-off built by a Gibson employee after all!

Hey Rob, want to sell yours?!!! I know a pair of good hands ...

He didn't answer my question.  :-\ I don't care for a prototype owned by this nobody Les Paul, I want one owned by Rob.

Think of all the things you can do with that money ...
Choose any charity, give to the poor ...
We noted your motives, we noted your feelings ...
This isn't blood money, it's a fee nothing more!

Coming from a holländische Kaufmann, what else is new?

It needs the trussrod opening stabilized, you know that!!! And I will get it unselfishly repaired. Think of all the road repair work we did with you guys 1940-45.

Name your price. You can always visit it over here too!

I will wait with bated breath.

I'd bid on the Les Paul estate one, but there is also a mandatory guitar to it which is of no use to me

just as the celeb factor - with all due respect to the man - is no enticement either. At the same time. I'd feel guilty "ripping the two apart".

Don't you want a shiny new bass, Rob?

Uwe there's a lot more unique Gibson basses to bid on in this auction. A lot of them being terrible hackjobs. But I bet they sound great with those home built pickups.

About the Lo-z Les Pauls:
I've always wondered why Les Paul mounted the pickups on the Lo-z guitars under a slanted angle, and not on the Lo-z basses.

That prototype is the only one that really interests me because it came that way from the company and wasn't modified to death by him!

A lot of the other stuff reminds me of this here in Toy Story!

The EB with the big black scratchplate and the two epoxy-cast pickups (lo-z) has often been sighted with his son Rusty Paul
