Gibson-inspired body, 32" scale, BA style bridge, Musicman type pickups. Not a lot of Fender in that design. And personally I didn't care for the sound in the demo, FWIW.

That's more or less the idea behind the pawnshop series. Something Fender never would have made but that you might find modded in a pawnshop.

I didn't care for the tone either. Certainly didn't sound like MM pickups.

I care about balance, too - which is one reason I'm not generally a fan of reverse-bodied ANYthing when it comes to basses.  That one is definitely included.  Just looks wrong.

We always complaint that Fender makes too much Ps and Js and I think this 32" thing is really something else. I would love to have seen more Fender-ish Pawn Shops though, like a Mustang Bass with Wide Range humbucker(s), A P with a WRH in the middle...

That's true, and this is certainly something different from a P or J. I just can't fathom why they would make something so un-ergonomic. And the tone is not going to win many people over.

For a 32" scale bass, this is a no brainer.  Doesn't neck dive, has great upper fret access and automatic guitard appeal.  Easy to change the pickup configuration.
