Despite the "never mind".....

With international shipping included it's probably a $550 bass.  They don't note scale length, and I'm not a fan of 34' scale SG-bodies, but the info I can find says the Japan model with set neck is a 30.5" scale.  Doesn't look badly beaten but not pristine.

I have some cognitive dissonance with paying that much for an SG-style Epi with some finish damage.  I'd be temped to buy a nice EB-0 and mod it for less money, but I wouldn't get a set neck going that direction.

I wouldn't pay that for it. This isn't an Elitist.

Droombolus

Doesn't look like a Yamano Epiphone Custom either ......

Yeah, the things I've learned here ......  ;D

Aussie Mark

1998 means it was produced during the period of transition from Orville to Epi Elite, so it's essentially an Orville with an Epi logo.  The price is good in that case.

The Elite/Elitist wasn't introduced until 2002. It also had US pickups.

You could be right, but I wouldn't count on it without some documentation. Otherwise, IMO this is just a plain old Epi made for the Japanese market, not an Orville.

The Orville by Gibson models also had US pickups.  In simple terms, the Epi Elites were rebadged Orvilles, with the Epi name used because Gibson decided to stop using Orville as their Japanese brand name.  Most (if not all?) other Epi production shifted to Korea around this time.

Yes, the Orville by Gibson did have US pickups, but this one isn't an Orville by Gibson, and it isn't an Elitist either. The seller isn't making any claim that this has US pickups. They don't have the Gibson script.

This was a Japanese market bass. We don't know the specs. I don't see how we can assume that everything MIJ under the Epi name at that time was the same as an Orville. For years they had different quality levels under the same brand, just like Fender Japan.

If you're interested; Im thinking about selling my Elite EB-3 from 2002. (Located in Europe).
Lovely bass but I'm afraid I'm more of a precision type bass player.
