I can't even remember how the bridge on my Hag 8 String worked , but I do remember the guy who made the bridge for my Earthwood borrowed my Hag for a couple of weeks so he could copy some of Hagstroms ideas and incorporate them for his own designs. He was a first class luthier with several patents for various acoustic and electric innovations. He was very impressed with a lot of things that Hagstrom was doing. In particularl, their bridge and neck designs.

Just in case others find this Hagstrom bridge interesting....

The auction has excellent photos and even some nice diagrams.

Darn thing has more screws and set screws than I've ever seen.  You can lock the saddles down on this bridge in multiple ways.

I had to look up the Beluga Bass to see what it looks like. Unfortunately it's one of those singlecuts with the hideous mutant upper horn. Uglier than a beluga whale. Even uglier than a beluga sturgeon.

I'll bet even the famous bassist Beluga Lugosi wouldn't play one.

Arr, arr, arr.

I think that bridge is shared across the 4-string models; it appears to be identical to the one on my HB-4.  One could do much worse for a substantial through-body bridge.

Some photos now....

I'm liking the way it plays, and the sound.  This one should be around for a while.

It does have that vintage Hagstrom look and a more useable bridge. Hope you enjoy it.

It does feel like a very solid, well-made instrument.  It will be fun a to get a good feel for how it performs.
