Cool idea.  My youngest son got this for my oldest for Christmas.
Makes good use of old credit cards and ID's.
He's made a few that have his thumbprint or picture on 'em.

The edges come out pretty flat and sharp.
30 seconds with an Emory board or fine sandpaper does the trick.

I'm not a pick player but my sister in law bought me one for my last birthday.  It works really well with old credit cards, and in terms of smoothing the edges, I've found that quickly running the edge across carpet two or three times is enough to get it smooth.
