Fender Select - because Fender just doesn't have enough models already

IMHO this is so colossally dumb that Henry Juszkiewicz could have dreamed it up.

The YT description: FenderĀ® has taken a cinematic turn in the launch of its new high-end Fender Select series of electric guitars with a highly stylized print campaign featuring Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. and a slick new short fictional film titled "Selected."

When the other fifteen tiers of "special editions and custom shop" just aren't good enough

Seems they're trying to position Fender as a lifestyle company instead of a guitar company. That's not a good sign. May or may not help their bottom line, not good for musicians IMO.

I think they will be able to confuse buyers as to the difference between custom shop and select.  They have too many models for me to follow, and I'm a Fender guy.

Jeez, can't believe I just watched that whole thing.  Doesn't Dave Grohl have anything better to do?  <jk>  :P

As for the "lifestyle" aspect, it made me think of this mag I recently saw on the newsstand:

A redhead in a green dress almost makes me want one.

Careful. She may give you something that requires penicillin.

Guitar Aficionado really makes the whole vintage guitar thing smell worse than it usually does.

But the "actress" has a killer can, so I can tolerate that for a couple of minutes.  It seems like Select is a pricey Fotoflame.

With the Fender Films things, they are actually reminding me of Experience Hendrix records.  They were getting into all sorts of idiotic things.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

Guitar Aficionado is an attempt to follow in the footsteps of Cigar Aficionado and Wine Spectator, but believe it or not, it's published by the parent company of Guitar World.

I never have quite understood the special appeal of figured maple tops. They are nice when done well, but no nicer than a lot of other hardwoods. Personally, I'd rather have plainsawn walnut. And now, plenty of lower cost Chinese guitars have them, so I can't see why someone would pay a premium anymore.

Ugh, that video gave me the creeps!  I feel like I need a shower now.  Quick, where's a Mike Watt video when you need one?

i thought it was a joke. how could something this lame be real.

Not a joke, unfortunately. They're on Fender's website. Musicians Friend and Sweetwater are taking orders. What a bargain!

I can understand why you thought it might be a joke. I thought the Pawn Shop series had to be an April Fools Day prank when it was introduced last year.

nofi

yeah, the pawn shop series. i was late to the party on that one, too. that dead horse fender has been beating has to be dust by now.
