First that is seriously cool  :o Second it's way over priced. Third for that kind of dough there had better be a legit provenance signed by Gene. Other wise it's just a beat up Grabber.

If it's legit, I'm sure Gene would confirm it at no charge, out of the goodness of his heart.  ;D

Basvarken

Wasn't Gene's bass a dark burgundy that was often mistaken for a black one?
Without a letter of proof I'm not too sure this is legit.

Gene had one of each...his real black one was sold at heritage auctions for 5k and came with a letter from Mark "The Animal" Mendoza from Twisted Sister, Gene had given him the bass. I have a picture of it somewhere...also if you look at the pics on the auction, Gene's Grabber had a flat headstock with no angle...this one has angle...I smell a rat! or a neck replacement...

I went back to look at the auction this thing was in from Oct 07 and it sold for 6500.00 and had a painted headstock front and back...the body is correct but the neck to me is suspect. I have those pics if anyone wants to see them..

"seller's other items" are interesting

$799 for a frankenbass? Gotta give him credit for not representing it as anything else, but I pity the fool who would pay that much.

Blackbird

It's tough to tell if the bass is black or dark burgundy as mentioned with the lights that are used...

I've seen photos and videos of him with natural, black, and burgundy Grabbers, as well as a black Ripper. The black Grabber in the Alive! booklet had a skunk stripe up the back of the neck.

I have talked with this seller and asked some rather pointed questions and it is in fact the same bass. He said that the Gibson custom shop refin'd the headstock, he had it done and has documentation to prove it. Gene had at least 4 Grabbers so this is one of them. He will take a lot less on the bass but it is still the price of a small car..

Funny ...How in the world do people (in this wonderful economy with so many people out of work) expect to charge so much for basses???
