It looks nasty.  I'm not a T-bird follower, but that's completely unnecessary and tasteless.

Could be remedied. At least the original pickups haven't been thrown away, assuming they are still there under the covers..

My 76 was rewired with the pickups in parallel, and sounds (to me) much more like the present day birds as a result.  I've been tempted to wire it back to stock just to compare, but like it too much as-is.  Shame that a simple rewire might have saved someone from butchering this bass in the OP...

If the price was right, that bass at GC would make a great candidate for some patching and a black refin  8)

WAY to much for that bass.

I've noticed prices for good '76s going up abit - surprisingly. That one is awful tho. In that shape $800 is wishful thinking.

I'd pay $800 but not $1,800  :o

I wonder whether another tbird pickup could be made to fit in that space.

The pickups wouldn't be evenly spaced, but it would look a little better.

Shame on whoever did it, and shame on GC for not mentioning it, yet still asking $1800.

But then, this has "a scale length longer than any fender", so perhaps it's worth $1800 after all?

Denis

I just noticed the extra knob. I'd say  that since it's already routed for the P-bass pup, it wouldn't do it any more harm to route it for another chromey T-bird pick up.

I'm not surprised at GC's asking price and that they don't specifically mention the mod in detail. That's just the way things usually are at GC. Full disclosure and a reasonable price would surprise me.

Actually...I'd rather have the UNBROKEN one with the P bass pickup.

I'm pretty sure a P route is a HAIR wider than the T-bird pup ring. would still look better than this.  :-\ I was eyeballing a Hamer Explorer with a P/J setup recently and did some measuring with some pieces I have sitting around. Thought it might be a good candidate for the chrome covered TB+ pair that I have.

Dave W

At those prices, I'd rather have the unbroken one too.

Even an obviously filled in rout would look better than keeping the P pickup in there.

I thought the same but with a mudbucker instead of a bird pup, but it may be too wide for that.
