I usually have tone pots fully open, ie max treble. Is that going to be any different from the pot disconnected?

I've seen various discussions elsewhere about the JC pots - 2.5K log, which seem to be hard to find, and whether using different rated pots would be a problem with the low impedance circuit. Any views on that?

But I always figure they might learn something off Ms Veronica Steed so they have their initial education there.
