My EB-X Project

I had  a few EBs back in the 60s and my favorite was the last one an EB-3 in transparent brown. So I thought I would try to recreate one except with a medium scale neck (32")

I bought a 2006 EB-0 Epiphone off CL for $75 that was run over by a truck and set about stripping it down to wood. Everything went pretty smooth in the first stages of stripping. Conventional strippers worked fine. Then I got to the clearish undercoat. That stuff is insane. It's as tough as tritanium, without a doubt. The only way to get at it is with a heat gun and scrapper and then sandpaper. But it's finally gone and here is todays picture.....

Next up is plugging the holes from the bridge. It seems pretty straight forward except for the one on the right which has the oh so convenient color change running through the edge. When I get it plugged, I've got a little Gotoh to put on.

I want to put a medium scale neck on it (32") which are hard to find. I can have Warmoth make me one, but it might be more fun to scrounge up a used or replacement one. Haven't exhausted that decision yet. Maybe one off an Ibanez GAXB150. The Warmoth neck would require some cavity routing

I want to add another pickup by the bridge with a volume and tone control, but haven't decided on what brand to put there yet.  Something like a soap bar, I think. It would be nice to find something with a chromed cover and some kind of trim.

I've been reading and asking questions over at ReRanch and those guys have been great to help

That's about it for now

Greg - I asked this in the other thread where you mentioned it, but I'll ask here....

- Are you sure the bridge placement will work with medium scale?  Bridges usually need to be moved when changing scale length.

- Are you ready to deal with some neck dive if a 32" neck is installed?  I don't like the balance of the EB-0 series with anything but 30" necks.  OTOH, the later model body you have may be a bit heavier then the 60's/70's EB-0 series, so it may work out OK.

Yah I'm going to plug those holes and put a Gotoh on it where it needs to go. I also bought a bridge/pickup cover (the squarish kind like the used to have) to mount strategically if the plugs don't turn out so hot.

I think it was my last EB-3 that had that problem too. It was inconvenient but I just had to hold onto the neck. It was kind of funny that it would just slowly sink to the floor while I stood there
