Large pickup cover to fit in a P-pickup

I was wondering if there's a large enough cover that you could fit in a normal Precision splitcoil? I have a Precision body which has plenty of room for some experiment and I reversed the P-pickup 'cause it sounds better that way with the added Jazz Bass bridge PU. However I'd like to cover the P-pickup 'cause it looks a bit starnge reversed and also because the large cover Neil Murray had in his old Telecaster/P-bass hybrid looked so cool.:)

If I understand correctly, a P pickup cover will fit over a P pickup whether the pickup is reversed or not. Should not be a problem at all.

I think he means a square cover like a humbucker

I have two spare Epiphone mudbucker covers. I tried it, but they're to small to cover a split P. You could make something yourself? A chrome cover, or like Billy Sheehan a piece of pick guard?

Yes indeed, like in that pic above.

I thought that too, just wanted to ask if there's anything large enough available. Better start digging up old soapboxes.:)

Is that a model one in that Precision...? saw them often enough but just don't remember that one, might have to dig through my pics to see as I have a quite a few hundred pics of that era WS...

So....why not use a Fender cover on a Fender-style bass?   ???

No, I once asked Neil what that pickup was and he said it was a Mighty Mite split coil reversed IIRC. I should ask him again.

As I said, I don't like the looks of a reversed P pickup and I like the looks of that large cover Neil had in his bass. Of course I could put a Model 1 in that hole (there's room) but as I have a good matching pair of P & J from 80's Jazz Bass Special it's cheaper to find or make a cover for it. The pickguard has to be re-cut too so the cover fills the nasty hole in that too.

Or do you mean an ashtray with the 'Fender cover'?

Hmmmm...not sure.  I may have missed something.

My vote is generally for both covers, just coz I like the bling and they don't get in my way.  But I know that's not the case for everyone. Shouldn't be too hard to get measurements on whichever cover you like.

Yes, just wanted to ask if there's large enough covers on the market already. I guess the D.I.Y. option is the way to go.

Are those the Jazz Special pickups with the larger pole pieces? I was looking for some of those.

Yes. A bit like QP's but not as large (at least I think, I haven't compared).

Hmmmmmm......You know, I have a Model 1.........if you decide not to use those pickups let me know.
