No Grails but plenty of coffee grains, Dave... ;)

I can't discuss the significance of his visit to mein heimatlandes, Al, but I did spot a T5 camper with Deutschlander plates, also a significant quantity of T2's... Hmm... maybe I should be concerned... ;D

This was yesterday mornings' view for my typing and coffee but there was no wifi, but...

The Island holds much for me in many moods and circumstances, many emotions both highs and lows... yesterday I made the my first visit for this trip to my parents... lost dad 10 years back this month and mum 19 years back... they rest in a raised location overlooking the sea where it is but a short walk away... always a time for strong emotions... I have generations and generations of family here...

This is part of the shore beyond the graveyard and I visit this old wreck to see how much more it has deteriorated... the return from whence we came, both family and things, has always been a theme in my photography, especially in disgarded mechanisms...

Some of the Lewis Chess Pieces are home at the moment, found by accident on the Atlantic coast of the Island... these are items of great importance to the Islanders...

This is the ledger book that records their sale...

Well, there goes the battery and now off to breakfast...

Mr Liver wants to try that Scotch!

On a slightly more serious note.......Beautiful part of the world, I'd love to see it for myself.

Perrrrfectly clear t' me ya ken, Big (Stu) yin...!  ;D

The rest of ye'll jus hae t' study the Big Yin an the Broons' an-ah that... ;)

I savor that malt and drink it sparingly and slowly, plain as it comes from the bottle - found out on this trip that they are stopping all local sales, excluding the distillery shop, but I know I can order for direct delivery - just not the same when it arrives in the plain-brown-wrapper... I have a few bottles that belonged to my dad back home (including a 1970's Glendullan, a now demised distillery and a 1972 Talisker, distilled in 1960) that I thought of selling or trading, but that would just be wrong, so they'll be opened for special occasions...

The weather here can be so drastically differing; many of us know that, but a few minutes up at Calanais this morning generated these two; nearly 200 again this morning...

I have been taking a methodical series of images, using the focus of the central monolith (cue eerie Ligetie's Voices music a-la-2001) - there are 13 primary stones in the ring (lunar calender anyone?) with distinct arms (NESW - not true, but the equinox' is almost perfect for sunset) - most of the lineups equate to the moon, but no-one really knows and there is a great deal of conjecture - my love of this site is the use of the stones as a backdrop to the ever changing sky...

As Mark (well worth the visit but nothing like your Wa coastline; a differing kind of beauty) and Al (same again for you Al, the desert has its own beauty) posted shot of their travels and I can assure you there are many places I can only dream about visiting - there was a pro shooter from Wyoming here a few days back and he has been coming her over the last 16 years - I took a shot of him, for him, with one of his two cameras - he had never had one of himself here (Dr Jeb Schenk) but without it being a brag, purely a factual comment, he dropped in about, "on one Everest trip I took over 300 photos and I'm only in six..." used to be a "close-to-the knuckle" explorer type and is planning one last big trip to Patagonia...

We can all dream...

Oh yeah, Paganism still has its place - this was in front of the main monolith this morning...

Yesterday was a day of doing the rounds of the gallerys and touristy places as it was chucking it down, but I made a pilgrimage to one of the two "black-houses" - so called due to burning peat in an enclosed area - in the old-days (meaning to me, 100 years back, my grandfather and his parents/siblings living in one) they would have a fire burning in the centre of the "long" house on an earthern floor, that would never be left to go out - a truly "eternal" flame - the smell of burning peat is so evocative for me - my wife won't enter either of the preserved houses that do this as the smell is all pervading... :o ;)

We planned this trip barely three weeks before coming up and could not locate anywhere to stay for two straight weeks (my last "blood" aunt is 85 now, and although she has the space we would not dream of being a burden) so we checked out the second place we are staying from Saturday and we are not even sure there is a phone signal, so as Dave said earlier... this may be my last post for another week, unless... ;D

I hope you remembered your bicycle pump to top up the windscreen washer power?

Very jealous here, my best holiday ever was being semi-"marooned" on Islay (Scottish Inner Hebrides) last year for 8 days, with only 8 distilleries on the island to keep me occupied.
