Lena will not win this time. And justly so - it was a silly idea to have last year's winner rerun this year. First time charms don't come twice and the new song is crap.

Like the Royal Wedding, I sometimes do watch these things.

Lena's track might be good for clubbing (and has the synth? bass up loud), but it's not Eurovision hit fodder. The iron rule is: You either win with something joyful and sprightly with a chorus in a major key or you do some melodramatic, straight-from-the-musical Über-ballad.

And this is how she won last year. There were better singers and songs (a common sentiment was: "she can't sing OR dance AND her English is plain weird, but she's cute!"), but she won the audience over with her charm. That probably won't work this year.

But if you ignore the mock-metal arrangement and the (largely sanitized) cookie monster vocals, then you are left with pretty much a drawing board created Eurovision hymn, Bon Jovi'nesque chorus (in a major key, what else?!) with girlie (the keyboard orc is a woman) aaahs and all.

Gonna be last as usual - the Irish pair were on a "talent show" last year with Simon Cowell; they'll probably win...

We do watch it here, but only for the (totally unbiased, not) voting...
