1961 EB-0 Bass

I was surprised to win this on Ebay recently. I had wanted a bass my birth year and had regretted selling my '61 Newport Deluxe back in 1996 due to medical bills.  It has a Badass bridge mod and some crack repairs on the headstock but sounds great.  I slapped some GHS Precision Flats on it and I'm set.  Pure mud heaven!  Any idea what current hard case would work with it?

Say, is it missing the tug bar? Or did you take it off?

I found a couple of the repro tug bars I made out of ebony a few years back - I f you want one and if I can find them again I'd be happy to pop one into the mail for you.

It is missing the tug bar.  It is hard to see but the tip of the pickguard is broken off as well. Has lots of mojo for sure.  I think the knobs are original but someone glued some caps on top of them.  I think they look cool so I'm going to leave them.  Thanks for the offer!

I've picked up a couple new Gibson hardshell cases for the SG bass, they work well for the old EB-0 & EB-3 basses. Keep an eye on ebay.

I can testify from my experience getting a '64 EB-0 that if you find an original bar bridge and want to remove the BadAss, the original bridge will cover the BadAss mounting holes.  However, if the BA bridge works fine and you like it, no need to mess with it.

That should be one FORMIDABLE sounding bass!  Congrats on your fortuitous buy!

 I remember just drooling over one of these as a kid. It was at the House of Guitars for years with the unreachable sum of $400.00 on the tag. One of these days I'd love to get one.

It was my first bass and still is my most loved. Mine is 1965 I think and I bought when I was a student in 1989

If you like deep, I mean really deep, then this is it. 

Not as deep as my '60, its body is almost twice as thick and there's a lot of difference between it and my '65 soundwise. Not to mention no neck dive on the '60.  But that '61 is really nice, congrats!  I keep my '60 in a Fender electric 12 string case, it's lived there since around '72.

I do like those '59 - '60 models.  It makes sense because those old double cut Les Paul Juniors and Specials sound a lot fatter than the later SG versions.
