They are not really different from EB-0's, right? Just body shape? And if so, what's the appeal?

In the '60s, both basses used the exact same hardware and pickups, so that's true.   I'm just partial to the looks of the Epiphone over the Gibson.  Not to mention, they are MUCH cheaper.
