I've seen this: http://www.fender.com/it-IT/products/search.php?partno=0266202321
This is the guitar version: http://www.fender.com/en-GB/products/pawnshop/models.php?prodNo=0266200

"guitars that never were but should have been" , i wonder what they'll come up with. Maybe a P with an added Humbucker against the neck?...

These were announced on April Fools Day.

God I love Fender..............................endless variation on two platforms. Seriously I think it's great, something for everyone.

I think it's an interesting series. I tried to find out if they were also bringing basses, but my Fender contacts really didn't knew...

But what about a semisolid P with an F-hole? Or a Mustang shortscale with the Tele Bass Humbucker?

Iome

Well, it's callled '72, so what about a P with a split and a tele humbucker at the neck..that would be sweet

I think it is a way to use up bulk ordered parts.  Seems like with the 51 P and the Stink basses, they ended up with a boatload of Telecaster bass control plates.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

These are supposedly MIJ (assuming it's not an extended April Fools joke) so you may be on to something there.

I have tested a Stagg cheapo short scale (maho body) with a mudbucker in the bridge position, and it sounded surprisingly good. A Mustang version is an excellent idea.

I really like this but not $800 bucks worth of like.

Considering what unmodified Competition Mustangs go for, 800 bucks for this one doesn't surprise me at all.

It has a Musicmaster neck, so it's a parts bass.

BTW post-78 Musicmaster necks are the same as Mustangs, only difference is the decal. I own a Musicmaster that has a Mustang neck code.

Dave W

I noticed that, but still, I've seen all-original Competition Mustangs above $2000, as strange as that seems.
