Morning, Outposters!

I went to see Peter Frampton last night, at the Assembly in Leamington.

In a word STUNNING.

Back in the day of "Frampton Comes Alive" I think I wore out my vinyl
copy - not only the record but the sleeve as well!
Albums of that size were a lot more interesting.

Peter and the band came on, no support, no waffle - Just came on a played
and played and played - all the songs you would want to hear if you loved
Frampton Comes Alive.

The sound was one of the best I have ever heard - apparently it has won some
sort of award for the quality of the venue and the sound - lighting was great
and the place was full.

Really getting into it and then he introduced the band. . . . .
"and on bass, Mr Stanley Sheldon". The icing on the cake.

Stanley was the first fretless rock bass player I had hever seen - Precision,
with a maple board, years ago - now a Musicman and and another bass I couldn't
quite work out what it was.

Just a brilliant night and a venue I will definately visit again - "Stray" are on in April,
always worth a look.

Anyone else go??

Cheers. :)
Now a little more wiser. . . . .

I have the new album "Thank you, Mr Churchill" which is a credible, not nostalgic effort. He's underrated as a guitarist, singer and songwriter and a nice man.  And more than 35 years after it clogged up the airwaves I can even hear parts of "Frampton comes 'Alive' " (that studio album for solely contractual reasons where the audience is dubbed from a Grand Funk concert)  again without wincing!  Inclusion of Jumping Jack Flash alone bought Keith Richards a house as he once quipped!

So many people forget that Frampton was the one who started Humble Pie.  Marriott just took over.  The only time I saw Frampton live was when he toured in David Bowie's band on the Glass Spider Tour.  He was great.

A few years ago Audley Freed joined Peter Frampton's band on tour. I would've loved to see those two on stage!

i saw frampton's camel and humble pie. my new guilty pleasure is the 'comes alive' album, at least the big hit off the album whatever it's called. mainly because you can stop for gas, fill the tank, go inside for some coffee and donuts, pay the guy and leave. that song will STILL be playing when you get back in your car. brilliant!

Frampton is the real deal. I saw him in concert twice back in the day and he was awesome.

Never got to see Frampton, had to make the choice between Bowie (Stage tour with Fripp) , Rainbow (Dio) and Frampton. All played in the same month and a 15 yo kid in them days had to count his pennies carefully. Big fan though. Even have a Herd album here somewhere.

You failed to say who you went to see...

Never did see Frampton but did enjoy that album, regardless of source...

Leamington is a trip and a bit for a gig, unfortunately - I'd love to see Mr Bromham again, but a bit closer to home, maybe... there was a time in the seventies when you could hardly turn round without bumping into them... (contact him and take you PC with you... ;))

Never met him...have heard he's a nice person. He lives in Cincinnati.

He's actually near Frankfurt next week. I might have a look.

Frampton completely stumped me when I first saw the Pie on their "European première" gig in Paradiso, Amsterdam 1969. Unfortunately for me Frampton's Camel never played in Holland  >:(. I would have loved to see his old band with Ricky Wills ( another unsung bass hero in my book ) and Mike Kellie on drums ......

my favorite Humble Pie tune ... love the bass line but i am not sure this is Frampton era Pie. i think it is and if i am correct this is Ridley on bass and Bobby Keyes on sax.

That album broke many a hard rocker's heart and it certainly did clog up the airwaves.
