.... sp-sp-sp-sp-sp-spurt?

Herr R'n'B, I was at your side when you wanted that EB-1 converted to fit your own personal handicap.  ;) But I vehemently draw the line at ripping out the original single coil to replace it with a later Gibson mudbucker. That is like reworking Mount Rushmore!!! I beg you to cease and desist from your evil ploy!

Yes, that single coil hums. It actually hums a little above an A, so it is helpful for tuning too.  ;D With a large rig and some neon bulbs around it hums even more, but if yours hums so loud that it gets in the way of the music once a band sets in, I'd be surprised. I changed the bridge on my 53 to that Jack Bruce Schaller monolith because I liked the sound of that bass so much I wanted it to intonate perfectly. It did neither increase nor decrease the hum. The hum is loud enough in our neon bulb ridden rehearsal room to have the singer ask "Something's humming with the PA tonight ...", but it is irrelevant once the music sets in.

As a matter of fact it was good for me........ :gay: sorry been wanting that for a long time!

"The hum is loud enough in our neon bulb ridden rehearsal room"

More likely this is fluorescent lighting with an older, non- electronic ballast. Notorious for its interference with single coil pups as are low quality incandescent dimmers.........can you say 60 cycle hum?  ;)

Mark, would a line conditioner take care of some of that noise? I know the problem may be more than normal single coil hum, but in general, is a conditioner worth having in your backline?

TBird1958

Well,

Its RnB that's having the problem with his '53 EB's pup not me, that said I DO use a Furman Line Voltage Regulator/Power Conditioner in front of my GK. That amp wants 750watts of clean 120v power or it gets unhappy, its probably well worth considering for the hum coming out of the bass and the amp.

Ah yes, the Green Hornet!

I don't have a lot of shots of my rig, so please excuse my frazzled post-show appearance..... I use a 4 space rack with a Furman 1215 Line Voltage Regulator in front of my GK1001RB mkII. Everything in the signal chain (wireless transmitter, Line6 pedal and 12volt hardwired cooling fan mounted on the back side of the rack)  runs thru the Furman, which has a nice series of indicator leds showing your incoming voltage. Works great for me, especially when we're at a venue with "suspect" power.

Next time I order hair from my fave little boutique in Berlin I'll get some to go with the green bass, like this......I just adore her  ;)

Manic depression, R'n'B? Don't give up just yet with that EB-1.

I hope your joking?

I agree with Uwe, the problem has to be correctable.

If you did indeed turn it into a lefty, I doubt your will get more than $4- $6,000 (if it is still having issues) if you can find a lefty who has that kind of cash. Right off the bat you have eliminated 80% of buyers. Just my opinion.
