Pah, even overweight, in a live situation and on an acoustic Yngwie is still a hell of a lot faster, more precise and more melodic.

But the vid must be doctored: I saw a woman in the audience smiling!     Women don't go and see Yngwie. And if they go, they are dragged along by their guitar nerd friends. And that means they don't smile all night, but rather have that "I'm only bearing with this guy because I love you so much"-look on their faces.

I can't believe he has a Ferrari decal on his Ovation  :-[ - how old is the guy again?!!!  :o

And Odin spoke: "I will give you this impossible speed, dexterity, melodic taste, vibrato and arpeggio skills."  And Yngwie said: "Great - what will be my price?" Odin sighed: "I will take away everything else."

Talk about sacrificing yourself for music.

I've noticed that none of my favorite bands have guitarists named Yngwie.

That is because you don't listen to stadium rock enough, Dave.

Ask any woman in the world, speed ain't everything... ;)

Ferrari Guitarri style just leaves me cold... too many years researching the note...

But...

The Rosenbergs can play circles around Yngwie.
While still retaining their musicality and taste.

Very nice that gypsy jazz, but Yngwie is way faster in that vid if truth be told. He is laughable in many ways, but you can't argue with his technique nor the aplomb with which he plays his classical stuff. And sometimes even with great taste though those two words do not immediately spring up when you think of the Swedish mad axeman.

Admittedly, the Rosenbergs play real classical guitars and Yngwie steel-strung ones, so that gives him an edge. You can be lightning-fast on classical guitar too as Paco de Lucia shows, but he's a finger picker which means there are certain things he can do which are beyond of what a pick player could achieve.

I actually met him (Malmsteen) breifly after a show (I think Rising Force?), we were across the street in The Cloud Room Louge (Camlin Hotel) here in Seattle - Pretty nice guy.
Resident T Bird playing Drag Queen www.thenastyhabits.com  "Impülsivê", the new lush fragrance as worn by the unbelievable Fräulein Rômmélle! Traces of black patent leather, Panzer grease, mahogany and model train oil mingle and combust to one sheer sensation ...

Yngwie gives the distinct impression that he likes showing off for its own sake. That's one reason why he gets parodied.

With me it's more his inmaturity though the show off thing probably directly stems from that. An 18 year old Blitz kid from Sweden can get away with things you can't forgive a middle aged man. Somehow Yngwie is like those Mexican axolotls which never grow up.

You'd have thought that by now he would have ditched the leather pants, the grand poses, his penchant for cheap women and either move into Al di Meola territory (another great inspiration of his btw) or front some prog rog weird meters outfit that really demand something out of his playing. People like Vai and Satriani, no slouches themselves, have sung the praises on his abilities and someone once said "he'll be breathtakingly great when he grows up and slows down". Except that he never did.

The axolotl can't help itself. And it wears less makeup.

Whereas a little tanning and rouge would certainly help its overall appearance!

How to grow old gracefully... a master showing us that you do not need to speed disgracefully up and down the frets until neck-do-us-part...

As if I had posted it ... You can be tasteful even in tights as an over-sixty-year-old with a much too young American wife of Polish descent faking a Brit accent. It's all in the hands.

Dave, what is this? Stadium medieval folk?  8)
