Cute.

Will it help "The Shack" be relevant again? I doubt it.

There was an article about Radio Shack in today's paper - another CEO turnover.  That business doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. It has almost abandoned hobbyists - and maybe there aren't many of them left - to sell cell phones and batteries.  Seems to me they need to define a client group and go after it.  They're still one of the very few places that sell a cross section of all the cables, adapters and accessories that go with electronics.  If they'd be more creative in that area maybe they'd have a market.

"The Shack" was a pathetic attempt to be cool. Nope. They've turned their backs on what made them famous.

Ever hear the Radio Shack parody of Love Shack?

I got me a computer, it's as big as a whale
My floppy disk gets hard at a Radio Shack sale
I don't got a life, I don't got a lady
I'm a dork, my best friend's a TRS-80!

I still go there for switches, LED's, etc for work. Fry's has a much larger selection but is further away.

That happend almost twenty years ago. After John Roach sold off much of Tandy's manufacturing capability to fund the incredible flop they called Incredible Universe, Len Roberts came in and discountinued the well known house brands like Realistic and Duophone in favor of the same brands and products that could be found at nearby big box stores. If it wasn't for cell phone sales they would be in dire straits.

But squirrels are cool. We have a squirrel bungee in our yard. Bought it at Menards to keep the squirrels away from the bird feeders. Search youtube for squirrel bungee.

Here's one:

Oh yeah, they were done long before their marketing people came up with "The Shack." They still carry some electronic parts and tools in-store if you know what you're looking for, b/c their sales staff usually won't have a clue about anything other than cell phones and plans.

And that's a shame, because I think there IS a niche out there in which they can succeed.  They just don't seem to be seeing it.
