Back in the days before OSHA:

Wow that is pretty cool. That poor bastid shooting laquer all day with out a respirator. I had a job where all I did for 8 hours straight was shoot laquer and I had a respirator and the job still sucked.

Looks like the horrible CBS days weren't so horrible at all.

Inspiring, perfect for lunch hour viewing.  I'd been wondering for years how the belly cut and arm contour were done.  Thanks!

Say what? With Leo in the film? This is way before CBS. Or are you saying that CBS was more conscious of worker safety?

BTW, I first saw this posted at the TDPRI, and it's now been pointed out there that this is actually from 1957 and was filmed by Forrest White. It's on a DVD included in a recent edition of Richard Smith's "Fender: The Sound Heard Round The World".

How many people own a speed screwdriver like the one used at 2:02 in that film?  I have one I inherited from my dad.

Same here, I thought of him when I saw it.

I've got mine - a Stanley.  Bought it at a swap meet in upstate NY about 15 years ago.

Good grief, I missed that - I have my dad's one too... lives in the shed (where-else...) ;D

Hang on until ca 6:08. At least one person still working from when the first film was made.

In some jobs that would be called a life sentence... :o

I'm simply amazed that many people have one of those screwdrivers!!  They are a triumph of technology, aren't they?
