Thanks for that story Dale. It sounded exciting especially getting off all the 'filthy sweat' of Paul's and with a limo driver waiting on it all! Much like a formula 1 pitstop. The information on the 'leaving the action on the high side' is also duly noted. I always thought even his Rickenbacker sounded a bit thumpy and 'Hofnerish'.

"Silly love songs"In my opinion is the best rick tone he got!I loath flat wounds on a rick(or any bass for that matter)But that particular bass tone has something about it.....He never got that tone on anything else with the rick.

That is a great story.  I think I like the story of the Mercedes Benz spy mission even better!

Any recollection of building a 4001 short scale?  They were an option in the catalog, but I never saw one.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.
