The Eagle has landed!!!
« on: November 15, 2010, 03:48:08 PM »
Got my 912 out of the shop today and drove it around for a couple hours!  What a great machine.  Takes me back to high school just to steer and shift the old girl.  Just had to share it with you guys.  Uwe, another good example of German engineering!

Mid-life?  I'm in my second mid-life fling!  If it doesn't have a stick shift, I don't want to drive it!   :)

My son and I started this project years ago when he was in high school.  I finally got it finished and have a few cosmetic things to do, but it's 98% done.  Really takes me back to when cars were so different than they are now.  Actually, I think you'd fit into this one, there's actually a lot of room in the front of the cabin.  I'm 6' tall and I have plenty of room.  Now the back seat (in name only)  is a different issue!!!  Just enough room there for my briefcase!   :P

Thanks guys.  It's the only way I could afford a Porsche...........a piece at a time over an 8 year period!!!!  It was a total rust bucket with a blown engine when I got her.  It turned out nice.  It's not a show car, but it is a great driver.

Looks like my 2x15 cab would fit on the passenger seat with the seat laid back.  Definitely a workable gig wagon!
Cheers

Beautiful! You don't see 912s very often at all.

Very nice!  My first car was a German Opel Kadett 2 door wagon.  A great gig machine (as well as other options with the back seat folded down)  and it had a 4 speed as well!

I hear ya!  My dream car was an Austin Healy 3000.  I have a friend with one and I can't fit behind the wheel!  Just too darn tight.  At least my 912 is roomier.

Yep, the back seats fold down, so room for your cab for sure!

True, many of them just rusted away.  They were major rain sponges.  They didn't sell as many of them as the 911.  They were meant to be entry level porsches that replaced the old 356.  They aren't worth a lot but they don't cost too much to maintain either.

That dash makes me wistful for high school too. My friend had a 914 that we tooled around in at lunch. Some scoffed at the 'Volkswagen Porsche' but that thing handled like it was on tracks and was a lot of fun!
