What's the deal with the brand name?  Someone else license these?

Jerry Jones has been making Dano-style guitars and basses in Nashville for a couple of decades, well before the Evets Corp. bought the Danelectro name and started the import reissues.

I think Ronn owns one or more of them.

Yeah but of course a real JJ will cost about USD 1200 retail. This baby's costs about half and its headstock sez Neptune........  Looks like it's JJ's budget range ..........

Yep, the two basses in the back are Jerry Jones.

This is a real JJ made in Nashville like all the rest. It's not a budget line and never was. The Neptune line replaced the original line, the styling was slightly different, maybe for legal reasons.  Now after several years the original style is back.

The Neptunes were in the 900-1000 range when new, and this one is used. I haven't followed them on eBay but it wouldn't surprise me if the Neptunes don't have quite as high a resale value as the original style models.

Interesting! I learn something every day on here!
So...is that sucker worth $559?

From the internet archive, looks like they listed $1050 in 2008. http://web.archive.org/web/20080115000724/http://www.jerryjonesguitars.com/

Keep in mind that most of their retailer network will sell them at below list price. I see that Indoor Storm (in Denis' part of the country) is selling new ones listing at $1275 for $828.75, or about 35% off. Still this one looks like a good deal.

The 6-string bass in my photo is a JJ Neptune.

So, all this brings to mind a question I've been meaning to ask.
Are the Korean-made Danos much higher quality than the Chinese ones? I've heard contradictory things about Korean models, but I KNOW my Chinese '63 RI is about as cheap as you can get. I put a new neck on it to replace the poorly fretted original and just hanging on the wall the new neck warped. Don't know yet if it's saveable.
