they have had 46 past and present members. former members have cross polinated many bands such as jethro tull, black sabbath, ufo, blodwyn pig, chicken shack and of course fogat. there are several more tenuous connections involved but they all fall within 6 degrees of savoy brown. (yes, flash, gary moore, alvin lee and supertramp ). bassist andy pyle is responsible for many of these connection. the guy was everywhere.

I love Savoy Brown.  Street Corner Talking is my favorite from them.  We got to open for Simmonds and Co. back in the '80s.  And, Yes was a direct connection.  Bill Bruford was the drummer for Savoy Brown, "for about 3 days", according to an interview I remember with Bruford.  Singer Dave Walker was actually in rehearsals with Black Sabbath for about a month, when Ozzy quit at one time.  Ozzy came back in a few weeks, and Walker was out.  I think he's been living over here in Colorado for quite a while.

I kinda went in reverse order to get to Savoy Brown.  I was a big Foghat fan in the early '70's (esp. the Energized album). Years later, while tracing back the band members (Prevett, Stevens, and Earl) to Savoy Brown, I became aware of Savoy much later than most.
Hellbound Train is one of the great songs of all time.

My Hiwatt reputedly belonged to someone in the band - wouldn't have been Kim Simmonds as he's died-in-the-wool Marshall - so as there's a volume switch I'm guessing it might have been Peverett, but nothing factual... just what I was told at the time I got the beastie...

One thing... I've never been able to trace any stage shots of the band in that era...

Anyone ever listened to the Black Cat Boans - Barbed Wire Sandwich - LP iirc first thing Rod Price was on - rather disapointing...

The unfortunate thing about "roots" searching is that sometimes the chase is better than the catch - Duane Allman played on something called Two Jews Blues... took ages to track down... truly awful...

Two Jews Blues is actually a Barry Goldberg album which guested either Michael Bloomfield or Harvey Mandell on lead guitar. Never occured to me that Duane played on it though I know a lot of his ol' Muscle Shoals buddies are credited ....

I've followed Savoy Brown from Getting To The Point upto Looking In, just couldn't get into the Dave Walker line-up ( with the original Chicken Shack rhythm section and Dave Walker also played in Fleetwood Mac didn't he ?   ). First heard them on a dutch radio show playing Give Me A Penny and I was immediately taken in by the Youlden / Simmons / Hall combination. My fave album has been Blue Matter for ages ..... Train To Nowhere is a classic in my book and the live side is still the best place to go to get the idea how the above average white blues band sounded in the late 60s .....

Our band took the name from Savoy Browns first LP, Shake Down. So we do a couple of tunes by the band, like Ring in the nose, and I'm tired. Good enough band, them Savoys.

If you look through a list of what he played on, it is pretty impressive -  This is a good link - not complete though... there is some truly amazing work out there, and some real duffers...

I have the Savoy Brown Blues Band's Shakedown lp, which is great.  I pretty much stopped there though.

Oh yeah, I'm a big fan. They used to hang out a few blocks from me back in the late 60s early 70s at the old bass player from Frigid Pinks house whenever they were in town. My favorite version of the band was when Chris Yuldon was doing vocals. I guess that's because my voice is very similar to his
