You may know all of this already but I thought of you when I read it and wanted to share just in case. The trailer definitely makes me want to see this film.

Ah thanks, George, I really have a soft spot for the Mk IV line up! Bolin gave DP a new (albeit curtailed by his addictions) lease of life (compared to CTTB Stormbringer sounds dead) and he never had a better means of transport for his songwriting than them. While his departure from DP wasn't a happy one, you can clearly hear the Deep Purple influence on Private Eyes where his backing band has much more a purplenesque wall of sound than on Teaser. He had obviously gotten used to that full backing sound. It's one of the reasons why I prefer Private Eyes to Teaser (the other two are matured songwriting and a more coherent style, Teaser was a bit random in that).

Highlander

I just love the version of Wild Dogs on the Japanese live album, even if he had had his hand reputedly slammed in a car door... I remember hearing the track for the first time on the Saturday Rock Show on the way back south from Scotland... the track haunted me for years...
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

Hornisse

I still remember the first time I heard that little bass solo by Reggie McBride on "Post Toastee" from Private Eyes.  After I heard it I wanted to play the bass!

Yes, that was a great run. High time for Private Eyes to be remastered, they have been talking about it for a decade now. Apparently, there is a 30 minute studio jam version of Post Toastee out there.

It will not only be a remaster but - in addition on a separate CD - a complete remix of CTTB done by Kevin Shirley of Iron Maiden, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Joe Bonamassa, Dream Theater, Journey and Mr. Big fame or - as non-lovers*** of "stadium rock" in this forum would probably think - notoriety. The remix even has the blessing of David Coverdale who says he's been listening to the album again and again since he received it. Classic Rock gave it the highest possible rating in their review, something which to my recollection they haven't done to any album save The Beatles remasters.

***One of the most shattering moments in my life as a Deep Purple nerd was when someone dear to me, let's abbreviate him with D., remarked on the 20 minute or so live version of Getting Tighter after one (!) listen that he would be "happy to never hear it again". People can be cruel, this forum is no exception.  :-\

This is always a hoot.

Harrison came on stage for that (in 1984 in Australia on the first few - essentially - warm-up gigs of DP post-reunion) and asked Gillan what key he should play the song in and Gillan in exuberant mood at the honor went "I can whistle and holler that song in any key on earth" which had Harrison inadvertently choose the one key Gillan was most uncomfortable in (judging from the recording it was G)!   But as Gillan added: "You don't argue with a Beatle!"

Harrison and Lord were neighbors - if you can have "neighbors" if you live as rock royalty in spacious southern England country mansions that is! It probably meant that they were only a half-hour Landrover (as usual there: on the wrong side of the road) drive apart.
