I'd like to contribute but I'll have to search for a bit.

I'm not sure that's true. I'm no expert, but in The Indie Band Survival Guide, it states, "When you record a cover song, you need to obtain a mechanical license from the author/publisher and pay the requisite fees... As outlined above, it doesn't matter if a song is given away for free or used as a promo, a copy is a copy, and to avoid an infringement claim, you're supposed to obtain a license." (page 194)

I finally found the section referred to in this quote - it's on page 164, and states, "Recording someone else's song requires a license. This license is needed even if you're just giving the cover song away for free."

Whether someone would ever crack down on the Outpost is another matter, but I think we should be aware that including covers is problematic. I hate to be the bearer of bad news!  :-[

Ssssssshhhhhhhh... There are lawyers listening!

I have no idea of this stuff, but what I will do is ask one of my IP partners here how the situation is.

Mono wont be a problem Al. What kind of quality is the recording?

It's in a partly edited sequence I have stored - should be decent quality, but it's miked (with a condenser mike) about 10 feet in front of a live performance.  I'll give it a listen this weekend.

Do you have a higher quality version?
I can save at a high bit rate.
It's a fairly short song,
so it would remain a reasonable sized file.

...or perhaps I could just mail you a CD?

As long as it's you playing the bass and you think it should be heard on CD, anything goes!

I have some ideas. Will probably be another multi-bass affair. 4 string and 12 string with drums, keys, vocals, and MAYBE some "regular" guitar.  ;D

Sweet! this is heading towards a Dbl CD  ;D  Which is great in my books. In Online version terms its irrelevent I suppose but being generally old school in my attitudes I like the concept of a Dbl Album.

If possible please make your files either wav or aiff. So big (best quality) files are better.

I'm still trying to find time to setup an ftp account on my server for those comfortable using an ftp client.

If you want to post a CD to me I have no problems with that. Just PM me and I will give you my postal address. I would prefer not to put it in the public part of the forum.

I would like to avoid choking up my email server with multiple 30mb files if I can help it so but if its the only way for you to get the file to me then please PM me first.

I'm digging through the video from the last of the gigs I played with my "temp" band last year - mostly original songs and all played fretless on the RD, but I don't want to waste anyones time If I can't get a quality track - Bret's got a couple of mp3's of the PC from the '87 but I feel that that is not relevant to this effort...

I used "dropbox" when Pekka left me recordings a while back - quite easy to use...

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Thx Tom, easier solution.

My most suitable track is probly MegaYang Mindbender Riffage on my TigerShark myspace.
It would be an honor & a thrill to get it on a Last Bass Outpost compilation!!

Aussie Mark

I got in touch with the guy whose upcomign CD I recorded on a few weeks ago, but he says that it won't be mastered until the new year, as he still has to get arrangements down for horns and strings on a couple of tracks.
Cheers
