Its funny how your taste in music changes (or should I say progress? ) with time. When I was younger, I was into the usual rock/hard rock/metal stuff, but now I have discovered my true love for 80s synthpop/disco stuff, maybe I have come in touch with the feminine side of myself, who knows? :P But I still enjoy listening to old stuff (Pink Floyd are my no1, my first CDs were Syd Barrett's personal stuff), and newer stuff, like those blackmetal norwegian churchburning vandals.

The newest thingy to me is country music, sometimes I (try to) play with a friend (he has a BaCH mahogany telecaster). This fast music is fun! :P

Also, I used the word "stuff" 5 times, this is an indication that my English suck harder than an 80s pornstar.

There's only two kinds of music...

Good music or bad music.

I agree.....

I saw Angel live, which was promoted as an American "Queen".  They put on a great show.

QuoteI listen to anything at least once, twice if I don't understand it at first, a couple of times if I feel it deserves to be liked and endlessly often once I like it.

The one thing I have learned about music is, like art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you just can't explain why one mans gold is another's garbage with one listen. It either strikes you or it does not. Personally I like most forms of music & really like music that challenges me and has great longevity to listen to (Lucky Bishops). Bands like WolfMother are a good listen for me as well but do not last long & you tire quickly with.

Looking up or especially down on someone for their musical taste is just wrong. I had my eyes opened by my brother's record collection from the late 60's when he was drafted during Vietnam. He had some really weird stuff, like the Fuggs, Electric Spinach, Zappa, Beefheart , etc. Strange stuff for a 12 year old to be exposed to. My Mom being the good Catholic / household declared it devil's music and sold it all in a garage sale.

Life is short, enjoy what you like & don't feel bad about it.

The one thing I have learned from here & elsewhere is, what is is obvious to you, may not be to others & visa versa, nor should you expect it to be. People are different and except it, dont be a hater. Don't break their crayons.

Another important thing is if you don't like something explain why.

I remember in the old days I would buy a record just for the cover, or the musicians who played on it. Now, once its downloaded & shuffled, you dont know jack about the band.

Also it is so important for music to fit the mood. A first listen to screaming metal at 6 AM might not be giving it its best shot. I have music for the morning drive, music for work & road trips. Any listening at the wrong time of any music can sound like crap.

Stuff is probably the most convenient word in the English language.  For better or worse, I use it all the time.

Amen to that.  I discovered Johnny Winter because of his album cover.  Same with Captain Beyond (who didn't?).  When I was working night shift in Chicago, it was metal on the way to work, soul/R&B radio on the way home (Tom Joyner's old show?), and AOR during the day.

I think Angel had one hit here back in the late 70's or 80's? Cant remember them much now though.

I used to marvel about their logo that could be turned upside down and still be the same.
Their music didn't do much for me.

as i have gotten older and busier i have found i hve less time to listen to music in general.  As a result i have chosen to use that time to listen to only what i truly love and not much else.  1966-1975 R & R and a little bit of motown is my sweet spot.  everything else gets left off the "turntable" or cd player.  Heck i refuse to get an ipod.  2000 cd's and 800 lp's  is just fine with me.,....

i too am an old fart....

Rcently replaced band three with a "newer classic rock"  ( how i hate that term)  band so some new stuff will have to be listened/learned  ie - Jet,  both crows...  etc  but only cause i have to...

I not only like them, I like the one album 'true' Angel fans aren't supposed to like (or so I've been told): Sinful. I love that it's unashamedly poppy, a little bit juvenile, and sentimental.

I started as a little kid listening to my sister's records. She worked at Capitol as a secretary in the late 60's and always came home with all sorts of albums and 45s (not just Capitol releases). Thing is, none of my older sisters were all that into music so I had my pick of those records even at four years old. The Beatles, Elvis, The Lettermen, Ray Conniff Singers, Peter and Gordon, Herman's Hermits, and other stuff I can't even remember now. Add in the soundtrack albums (Georgy Girl and Oklahoma are two I remember) and I wonder how I survived, musically speaking! I still remember years later when I found out I wasn't supposed to like KISS and Blondie (or whomever) at the same time. I never did pay that much attention to what I was 'supposed' to like...

I find people who actually believe their musical taste makes them superior to others to be lacking in the self worth department. Like what you like and haters be damned!

I agree.  I like Bach, Handel, Rossini, Wagner and many of the "popular" classics (and I've played some of them on upright bass)...I find Barry Manilow listenable, really like Sinatra and Dean Martin, dig Paul Revere and the Raiders, Steppenwolf and many bands of the 60's and 70's.  I even have a Lord Buckley LP, and if the guys who think they are rapping now could dig that old dude, they'd take off they gangsta hats in respect.

Like what you like.  Enjoy.

As a side note - I was a DJ in the 60's and 70's, and most people don't realize what a FLOOD of 45's hit radio stations - 90% of them had no future and just weren't that good.  It was only the tip of the iceberg that ever made it on the air - the other records weren't even good landfill.
