Same mail-in crap Carlos has been rolling out for the past 15 years.   Pity that he is dirtying his legacy with this drivel.

I like 'em!  I continue to be a big fan of Santana.  That version of Smoke on the Water doesn't do much for me, but I like the other two.

I like them too.  Saw him the summer of '76 in San Antonio on the Amigos tour.  Moxy opened!

In that case, don't be tempted to tarnish your memories of that stellar phase of his career by buying the new album.  Abraxas, Amigos and Woodstock are the things I'll cherish about Santana's career.

It should be illegal, and punished with lapidation, to rap an AD/DC song.
I love the old Santana stuff, but these later albums with other "younger" artists, and now covering songs, just seems like a easy and fast way to make money IMO.

I have the album. It's not horrible, but if Abraxas is Carlos' Citizen Kane then this is "American Pie IV". Carlos is a wonderful guitarist, but his choice of material is questionable at times. This album is not so much bad as a little pointless in his canon of music. Reminds me of the dross Mike Varney would put out though it is much better executed. The drumming of course is excellent - I'm in awe of Dennis Chambers, so is probably Terr!

santana is doing the same thing john lee hooker did towards the end of his career. that is filling his records with popular 'guest' artists to boost sales. i liked the first few albums than lost interest. as far as this new album of his goes i think it ordinary and ultimately poimtless.

who appointed carlos the spiritual godhead of rock music? when ever there is a music show on tv he almost always pops up with his words of wisdom and cosmic meanderings. :P

I bought the Shaman CD in 2002.  I found it stale and uninteresting and haven't bothered to listen to Santana since then.  Rarely have I ever been so disappointed with an album.  I felt like I was listening to a phoned in performance.

Oh, somehow I missed seeing your post.  You certainly have expressed the way I feel.  As for his "cosmic meanderings," he obviously doesn't have the slightest idea of what he is talking about.

I can't help but think of this when I think of Santana.

Lightyear

He jumped the shark a long time ago.  This is just worse.  I saw one of those half long infomercial things for this album very late at night several weeks backs.  It makes those Time Life "collections" shows seem classy.....

Aussie Mark

Every track on thie album I've heard sounds like Carlos emailed his track to the engineer.
