Yes, unfortunately it's still a Micro-Frets.

I've only seen maybe 4 of them ever. None of them had any low end to speak of.

Yes, but with Marshall fuzz you can nail that gnarly tone and with the aid of bass pedals play arpeggios high on the neck:

I think a friend has an ultra-shortscale bass of that brand. Something like 25" but 4 string.
