Student who shocked himself suing school, teacher

On a dare, he attached alligator clips to his nipples and was shocked at the result. They failed to tell him that current is dangerous. D'oh!  You can't expect a high school student to understand that.

Reminds me of something we used to do on purpose when I was in Boy Scouts.

I pulled the transformer out of an old radio.  We got all the troop to stand in a big circle around the room while holding hands, and the scouts on either side of me grabbed the input/output wires on the transformer.  I then connected a C cell across the power contacts dangling from the transformer.

The idea was to watch everyone in the circle twitch, and see who would let go first.

Note: I was the smart guy holding the transformer and battery, not the input/output wires.   ;)

Yes, you would think that a high school kid would know about such things.

Yes. Even if he didn't urge the student to do it, he should never have let anything like that happen. OTOH how dumb do you have to be to try something like this?

Ah, the good old days :P. When a car or station wagon used to pass by with a half dozen butts hanging out the window  ;D. Now you get a low rider or an SUV with a couple of Mac-10s spraying the neighborhood >:(.

As long as no alligator clips are involved.

I can't put into print what I used to do to demonstrate electrical stupidity and safety to apprentices, but it definitely did not come with HSE approval...

All I will say is that it involved a screwdriver and a bare bus-bar :o
