I have a dillion bass version of brian may's three pickup guitar.  well made instrument. typical korean quality versus chinese..... very light wood.  not sure what it is  - graining (red stain) shows thru but not sure if it is a laminate.   pickups are kind of crappy.  hardware ok...  that price seems on the high side..

Have you seen/played a Brice Tbird?  Quality wise it's on par with BaCH.  Nicely set neck w/chunky J profile which is OK with me.  Funky knob placement and side jack, thru body bridge.  The body is shaped just like this Dillion with slimmer upper horn.

haven't seen a brice anything.  Bach was something special because of the NR nature..... since seeing Cornick I always wanted one..

I have a 76 so don't really need a tbird clone.  too many basses ...not enough bands, gigs life left ...   By the time i am done adding 2 lull's i am better off justing getting an orville or greco.

IMHO i have always always found korean made stuff much better than the chinese made instruments....

I'm turning 64 next week and if I die under a heap of basses I'll be happy.  My plan is to keep buying until I'm broke and then start selling or burning them for heat.

I agree about the Korean stuff, they were taught by the Japanese who are as demanding as the Germans in regards to quality, actually more so in my experience.

The Chinese were not as advanced technologically when they started doing their thing...unfortunately their customers were generally not Asian or European (fill in Nationality here).  They cared mostly about price and had the arrogance/ignorance not to do their due diligence.  You pay crap prices that's what you get.  Current product from good factories in China is comparable to Korea IMHO.

I think the word "GOOD" needs to be accentuated in that sentence but I tend to agree. I have a Chinese  Tele that was purchased on the sole basis that I picked it up and played it and it felt Just right.  Its as good as any geeta I've ever played. I did swap out the Duncan designed pups for some genuine SD's. Not that the the original pups weren't quite acceptable, they just lacked that extra presence and sparkle.

The normal evolutionary process is going on in China.  More experience, labor is becoming more expensive, customers are getting smarter and 'not so good' factories are falling by the wayside.  Similar experiences as Freud's Cat's are convincing more players, esp. younger ones that Made in China isn't necessarily bad.

Generally they seem to know where to place a bridge, or if they don't get it right the first run they correct it by the second if they survive ;)
