Not the best day to have my electrical service upgraded: got up to 89 F, near tropical humidity and no breeze. No power for seven hours. But I can't put in A/C without it. I'm bushed. Two months until cooler weather!

Whiner! :P :P  You could still be in Texas with a wonderful AC system and four more months to enjoy!

I'm in Virginia this week and it's in the 70's!  Nothing like fall weather!  I was told that it was 102 at the house yesterday.

I do have two ceiling fans, A/C is probably two weeks away. Dehumidifiers do little or nothing with the windows open, I'll just have to manage without air a little longer. The heat sure slows down all the little projects I need to get done.

Are you having central AC installed?  I see small window units all over the place for less than $100 now - I would be hard pressed not to pick one up to cool one room and least sleep good.  You then have a backup for breakdowns if needed.

When we lived in Bryan TX we lost AC a few times in the summer.  All we could do was put a big-ass Patton fan in the window and move as much air as possible...including cranking up the ceiling fans to "takeoff" setting.  Not fun.

Central. The house does have a newer high efficiency gas furnace but it's never had air. At least all the ductwork is in place.

I can't see buying window units, they're lower efficiency and even the small ones are a pain to mount when you have storm windows.

When Ike hit two years it was beyond miserable - no power, blazing sun, 100% humidity and not a bit of wind (after hours of level three winds) - one day and one night of that convinced my parents to take advantage of the hotel rooms I had reserved in Austin - thankfully.

With the lower heat load how much tonage per 500sq feet do you need up there?

At least, here in Minnesota, we don't have to deal with huricanes. Beer helps you survive heat & humidity in a pinch!  :toast:

About the same except finished basements aren't included in the footage.

In my case, lots of ice tea. Can't drink enough beer fast enough to keep up with this.

What's aircon...?           not...

You need that that far north... WOW...!!! and how many inches of snow each year on average...?!?!?!?!

I've got aircon in the van, mind you... (lower window - drive faster... ;))

It's not just the heat, in Dave's case it's also the humility.

That's called 475 air conditioning: 4 windows down, drive at 75 mph.

Most people do have a/c here. Summers aren't as long or as hot but they are muggy.

Nah... only got two, and at that speed I'm breaking the UK laws... ;)

I can understand the humidity issues, though...

Looks like you're going to miss Brett playing for your team. Hope you can return those season tickets?
